History

Libertyville Montessori School was begun in 1964, serving families in Lake County, with pre-school and kindergarten age children.  Libertyville Montessori School is one of the oldest operating Montessori schools in Lake County, and in the state of Illinois.

A trained Montessorian, Larry Lewis, joined the school in 1969 at a time when there were some fifteen children and no directress.  The primary goal of Libertyville Montessori School has been to secure the best possible Montessori teachers for pre-school and kindergarten age child; for serving them has always been the primary task.

In April of 1982, William and Marjorie Cramer purchased the Libertyville Montessori School.  For the 1982-83 academic year, there was one morning and one afternoon classroom.  In July of 1983, a classroom annex was added to Libertyville Montessori School, and another Montessori Directress was hired.  In the spring of 1984, the Libertyville Montessori School was expanded with the addition of another octagon shaped building to facilitate another morning and afternoon session.

In June 2008, Libertyville Montessori School was purchased by Lincoln Park Properties Investment Group.  For the 2018-19 school year, LMS added a pre-primary room, as well as a lower elementary class. LMS continues to be operated with the same integrity, philosophy, goals, and programs as it has in the past, along with the prospect of an even more exciting future as new programs are added.
